A blog written by Alfonso Regular, intern at Breaking Blue.
Recently, I joined Breaking Blue as an intern. As I was being introduced to the company and my colleagues, something caught my attention.
I imagine it is not common for a company’s social and environmental responsibility to be the first topic of an induction programme. Yet there I was, on my first day of work, being briefed on SERT!
Naturally, I forgot what the acronym stood for the next day. Social and Environmental Responsibility Team is the answer – it’s not that hard, really.
The fact that this was the first topic the company wanted me to be informed of says a lot about its people, and their way of thinking. Promoting the protection of the environment, supporting the local community, and ensuring ethical working practices are some of SERT’s objectives.
And who is a member of SERT? All of us! Everyone gets involved with the SERT programme through our corporate and team objectives.
Here are a few things we can be proud of, and aim to improve on, from last year:
- Over £1,500 was donated to local charities
- 92% of our waste was recycled
- Large food donations were made to The Trussell Trust
- Unwanted office furniture as well as surplus stationery were donated to a local charity
Finally, this initiative is not limited to our workplace. I am convinced all of this effort is making us more conscious citizens, and better people overall.
Thank you BB and SERT!
